Various things could put employees' safety at risk while in the workplace. However, you can prevent them from happening, thus improving safety and security in the office. Proper planning is crucial, and there are simple changes in the design or setup of the workplace that could significantly impact the safety of employees. Here are some of them.

Proper lighting

Ensure proper lighting in the company premises, including the main work area, stairs, entrances, exits, garages, and parking spaces. It will help employees see properly and prevent slipping, falling, or getting into an accident due to low visibility. Moreover, poor lighting may also cause eye fatigue, which may affect the productivity of your staff.

Ergonomic furniture

Designing the workplace also involves the furniture that you will use. Choose ergonomic desks and chairs for the maximum comfort of your employees. If they are uncomfortable, they may strain their muscles or hurt their back, preventing them from doing their tasks fast and efficiently.

Fire alarm system

Part of the office design is to ensure proper electric installation to prevent fire. However, it's still vital to have a fire alarm system installed in the workplace to alert everyone if a fire starts for some reason. Employees can evacuate the building quickly if they hear the alarm. It's also wise to invest in automatic or electric window openers. Based on statistics, more deaths are caused by smoke than by being burnt in fires. Smoke can easily travel in various areas of the building, making it difficult for people to see and breathe. They could get trapped and suffocate, lowering the chances of survival. You can set the automatic window openers to work with the fire alarm to open the windows if smoke is detected. Smoke will escape the windows, clearing the inside of the building for employees to get outside safely. Besides being helpful for fire situations, these openers can also aid with natural ventilation, allowing fresh air to get in and circulate properly in the workplace. It is beneficial to the health of the employees.

Anti-slip products

Use anti-slip products and materials to prevent people and vehicles from slipping. These areas include driveways, walkways, stairs, entrances, and other places, especially those receiving high traffic.

Signs and warnings

Place clear and visible signs or warnings so employees would be extra careful. For example, if the floor is slippery due to the ongoing cleaning, put a sign, so people would avoid passing through the area.

Clean and organize the workplace

A neat and organized office enhances productivity because employees will not be distracted by clutter. Moreover, it also improves the workplace's safety because objects will be in their proper places, thus preventing the employees from accidentally tripping on them. In addition, materials that may cause hazards would also be stored properly, thus preventing risks.

Keyless entry system

Consider installing a keyless entry system in the workplace so that only authorized people can get into the work premises. Employees could enter using their biometrics or key cards.Think through your office design to ensure that it improves the workplace's safety and your employees'.
