Greenway Associates have been completing projects throughout the pandemic and continue to see the impact different ways of living and industry changes are having on the construction and design of our homes.

We’ve become very accustomed to the inside of our homes in the past couple of years. Living and working in the same space has had an impact on the functionality and necessities of new build houses and renovations. As a result, architectural designers like the team at Greenway Associates are having to rethink some strategies and procedures.

The elephant in almost every room at the moment is climate change. We are more aware of the impact our daily lives are having on the environment and some of us are actively trying to improve our carbon footprints.

Planet over Profit

No matter how much we do to reduce waste, travel consciously and eat well - a lot of homes in the UK are not suited to this modern way of living.

From 2022, a major update to the building regulations will mean new properties will have to produce around 30% fewer carbon emissions. For Greenway Associates, this has meant thinking about sustainability and energy consumption with their clients.

Directing people towards better insulation and more effective glazing is just the beginning for Greenways Associates though.

Bay Windows -

These offer more light and space in any property. Pairing the best energy-efficient windows with the application of light could help save on bills from heating and illuminating your home!

Loft Conversions -

The team have carried out a number of loft conversions, utilising dead space in older homes to create functionality.

Home Offices -

This has become a necessity for many over the pandemic. Greenway Associates have been working to find creative ways of incorporating this need in small homes.

Interior Design -

The flow of a property is becoming far more important in 2022. Allowing for more light and airflow could help us achieve a more healthy and environmentally conscious way of living.

Greenway Associates Are Powering Through This Change

The materials used to construct new properties or carry out these renovations and extensions are often just sourced cheaply or with direction from the preference of the client. Now, it’s going to be crucial architects and builders follow suit and source sustainable materials that are insulating and stable.

Wayne Greenway - founder and managing director of Greenway Associates specialises in design management. This includes the communication between regulatory bodies. As the standards for buildings in the UK increase, Wayne and other designers are going to be driving forces in ensuring every project lives up to these requirements.

Without proper consideration for energy efficiency and sustainability - it will become much harder for permissions to pass and projects to be carried out as we once knew.

Also, with remote working becoming the norm and families continuing to grow - it’s not just new builds that are facing changes this year.

Greenway Associates continue to work hard on renovations and extensions - creating more functional space to separate work and living. They carried out a loft conversion previously that shows the expanding need for space in our small UK properties.

Without the hassle and cost of moving, this type of development is ever-present for architectural designers. Wayne and his team continue to work with clients wanting home offices or extra living accommodation to support their growing families and the changes we’ve experienced recently.

We are living differently now and so are going to notice many differences in how property builds and refurbishments are approached. But with growing considerations being made to the environment, new processes are going to have to suit an eco-friendly and homebody way of living in 2022.
