The exterior design elements of your home play a significant role in its overall style and general curb appeal. Furthermore, many of those elements might have been added with the intention of creating an enjoyable space for your family to enjoy outside the house.

If you have put effort into the design choices of the exterior of your home, the last thing you want is for something unexpected to come along and spoil your ability to enjoy them. Here are four things that might negatively impact the effort you put into the exterior of your home.

1. Bugs

Not only can bugs ruin an afternoon outdoors by biting you and your family, but some pests can also ruin the hard work you put into the design of your outdoor space. Anything made of wood, like fencing or decking, is fair game to pests like termites and carpenter ants. Wasps and hornets like to build their nests under overhangs or in trees and bushes. If left unchecked, your outdoor space could be swarming with such pests when spring is in full force.

In order to prevent having you outdoor elements ruined by bugs, it is a good idea to have the space treated against the more common pests at the start of spring. Make sure to have expert pest control St George Utah services come out so that you can avoid any clashes with pests and bugs this spring.

2. Weather

Even though the colder weather is on its way out, a lot of the country experiences heavy rains and occasional thunderstorms during the springtime. Some of these storms can even bring hail, an act of nature that is particularly cruel to roof tiles and anything made of wood. Paint can be chipped away, and if a storm is bad enough, larger hailstones can crack windows.

While there isn't a whole lot you can do to prevent the sort of damage that can be done by a bad hailstorm, it is a good idea to have your roof and siding inspected at the start of spring so that any preexisting damage can be assessed. An already weak roof won't hold up well to a bad storm, and the last thing you want is for your home to incur internal water damage as a result.

3. Improper Landscaping Practices

If you have put a lot of effort into the landscaping surrounding your home, you might be upset to discover that some practices could actually lead to some pretty bad damage to the exterior of your home. For example, piling large amounts of mulch too close to your house can result in a buildup of retained moisture over time. That moisture can cause mold to grow around the foundation of your house.

Before you start working on the landscaping around your house this spring, do some research so you can better understand how to avoid common mistakes.
